Organize your favorite websites for quick and easy access!

Do you find yourself typing the same websites in the address bar consistently? Has your Bookmarks list grown so large that it’s actually harder to find the website you’re looking for? Are you looking for a way to organize your favorite websites and access them quickly and easily?

This tutorial will teach you how to do the following with the Firefox browser:

What do I need?

First and foremost, you need the Firefox browser! You can download the latest and greatest at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/. Once you have downloaded and installed Firefox, you’ll need to make sure the Bookmarks Toolbar is viewable. Go to View > Toolbars > Bookmarks Toolbar. The Bookmarks Toolbar will appear just under the Navigation Toolbar.

Bookmarks step 1

Create folders to organize your favorite websites

First, let’s create folders to better organize our favorite websites. Right click anywhere on the Bookmarks Toolbar and choose “New Folder”. Your folder name should signify the type of websites you’d like to categorize. For example, I will create a folder called Jacorre Studios, which will include links to Jacorre Design Studio and Jacorre Sound Studio.

Bookmarks New Folder

Your folder should now be included on your Bookmarks Toolbar as seen below:

Bookmarks - New folder 2

To delete a folder, right click on the folder and choose “Delete”.

Add or remove your favorite websites into or from folders

Now that we have a folder to organize our websites in, let’s add some websites! In your address bar, enter the url for the website you’d like to add. For example, I’d like to add Jacorre Design Studio to my Jacorre Studios folder. So I type in www.jacorre.com/design/ in the address bar. To add the website to your folder, it’s as easy as dragging the favicon into the folder!

Bookmarks - Add

Another way to add a website to your folder is to right click on the folder and choose “New Bookmark”. You will then need to enter the information manually as seen below:

To remove a website, right click on the website and choose “Delete”.

Edit information about your folders and websites

If you would like to edit any folder or website information, it’s as easy as right clicking and choosing “Properties”. For example, if you wanted to edit a folder name, right click on the folder and choose “Properties”. Make any changes needed and click Ok. If you wanted to edit website information, right click on the website and choose “Properties”. Make any changes needed and click Ok.

Bookmarks - Edit

Reorder your folders and websites

Let’s say I wanted my Jacorre Studios folder to be before the Google folder. To do this, right click on the Jacorre Studios folder and choose “Cut”. Then right click on the Google folder and choose “Paste”. The Jacorre Studios folder will now appear before the Google folder.

Bookmarks - Move Folder

Let’s say I wanted my Jacorre Sound Studio website to be listed before my Jacorre Design Studio website. To do this, click and drag the Jacorre Sound Studio website over the Jacorre Design Studio website.

Bookmarks - Move Website

Open all your favorite websites at once

Now that you’ve organized and added all of your favorite websites, there’s a very quick way of opening them all at once! If I wanted to open all of my Jacorre Studios links, I would click on the Jacorre Studios folder and choose “Open All in Tabs”. Each website would open in a separate tab. No need to click on each one individually!

Additional Information

The options described above are also available using the Bookmarks Manager. This can be found by going to Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks.

I want to thank you so much. This has helped me extremely since I have so many educational sites for home school and others for just being a homemaker.

Hi Sara, I am also using a PC. When your mouse is over the favicon you should see a hand. Click and drag down to the folder of your choice. When you’re over the folder, you should see an arrow with a small rectangle next to it. Let go at that point and the site should be added to your folder.

I had trouble with this step: “Add or remove your favorite websites into or from folders”. I couldn’t drag it, but had to use the alternate method. Is that because I have a PC?
